What’s your ideal summer day? For me it involves sunbathing, a body of water to dip in, a sprightly cocktail, and an evening porch lounge in the finally-cool air. Followed of course by a divine beauty routine, with products that are perfectly-suited to summertime use: light, bright, cooling, and clean.

And the five products featured in this post are just that. I discovered them various different ways – Instagram, the grocery store, and a Love Goodly box subscription, among other places – and have used and LOVED each of them. And I hope you will too.

All brands are (of course) cruelty-free, and all are entirely vegan except cocokind which uses beeswax in 3 of its products. Enjoy!

1. Oil to Milk Cleanser || cocokind

Clean vegan beauty cleanser

If you’re looking for a gentle, effective, luxurious cleanser at an affordable price, look no further. cocokind’s oat to milk cleanser creates a very subtle lather and leaves your skin feeling SO soft and hydrated. I personally wish it foamed a bit more simply because I like to feel as though I can actually see the cleaning action, but beyond that minor detail I’d call it the perfect product.

Price: $18 || Key Ingredients: Probiotic fermented oat (to support the skin’s microbiome) and organic oil blend

Brand: cocokind is a transparent clean beauty brand with lots of lovely products, many of which contain organic ingredients. They’re always clear and upfront about which are their “hero ingredients” in each product and how much of the product those inputs actually comprise. Note that they have 3 products made with beeswax (mymatcha all-over moisture stick, skin butter, turmeric stick) so are not 100% vegan. I love their understated but elegant packaging.

2. Hydrate & Repair Hair Mask || B.o.B.

Vegan hair mask bar

For whatever reason I resisted the idea of using bars of any sort for hair care, maybe thinking they would be more of a hassle than a liquid or just challenging to store. But they’re SO lovely! I had gotten this bar in a Love Goodly box and finally gave it a whirl. It smells like something born of summer – fruity and floral and lush – and it leaves your hair feeling rejuvenated and pampered.

Price: $16 || Key Ingredients: Yacon syrup (for moisture and shine), argan oil (to soften and smooth), quinoa protein (protects and repairs)

Brand: B.O.B. (Bars Over Bottles) is a game-changing beauty brand that, as their name implies, uses bars instead of bottles for their products. Traditional beauty products are 60-80% water, so by selling bars instead of liquid products they can 1) lower their water use 2) use fewer preservatives in their products 3) use zero (!) plastic and 4) lower carbon emissions by shipping lighter things. The earth and your hair will thank you!

3. De-Puffing Jade Facial Roller || Mount Lai

Mount Lai Jade Roller

Jade is apparently thought of as the stone of eternal youth, which feels fitting because a roll session with this baby really makes a gal look alive, awake, and alert. It’s cooling and soothing and the ritual of a little facial massage with a roller feels all sorts of good. It’s also just a nice looking beauty tool, and serves as a nice accessory on the bathroom counter.

Price: $36 || Key ingredients: Jade, lol

Brand: Mount Lai is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and they formulate their products, according to their site, “in collaboration with Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, using herbs intentionally selected for their healing and beneficial properties that have been studied extensively throughout history.” So cool! They’re also carbon and plastic neutral, and Asian female owned. Lots to love.

4. Lemon Superfood All-in-One Rescue Butter || Dr Botanicals

Vegan body butter

I find few self-care moments so pleasing and summer-appropriate as slathering some of this rescue butter (which I store in the fridge for the ultimate arctic experience) on my hands for a li’l pick-me-up. It’s cooling and refreshing, and the lemon essence is irresistible.

Price: $15 || Key Ingredients: Almond oil, coconut oil, shea butter, lemongrass

Brand: Dr Botanicals is an award-winning European skincare brand (so you know their ingredient standards are high). They’re proudly LGBTQ+ owned, and are aiming to be carbon free by 2025 and to use only recycled products in their packaging by late 2023.

5. Grab & Go Coconut Oil || Conscious Coconut

Pure organic coconut oil for travel

These little coco cuties are prime for summer travel near and far. Each box contains 5 packets of organic, Fair Trade Certified™, virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil. Why yes, this is the bee’s knees when it comes to coconut oil. They’re small and TSA-approved so perfect even for plane trips. And the uses? Countless. Moisturizer, post-sun, oil pulling, shaving cream, conditioner, and make up remover, just to name a few. And bringing a single item that can serve a thousand purposes is SO nice and convenient for travel.

Price: $8 || Key Ingredients: 100% coconut oil

Brand: Conscious Coconut is a lovely, coconut-centric brand. They’re Fair Trade Certified, they do NOT use animals to harvest their coconuts, and all of their packaging is either recycled, recyclable, or biodegradable. For every product sold, they also donate a meal to a child through Feeding America.
